Work to Be Last, Monday, October 19, 2009

Reading: Matthew 19:28-30,  28Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother[f] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. 30But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

Most of us men are very competitive. We LOVE coming in first. We aspire to win… to conquer. Even as boys we might have played “King of the Mountain”. The feeling of being on top, as a boy, was the ultimate feeling of conquest. Yet, Jesus talks about those who are first will be last and those who are last will be first. Why? This seems to be the opposite of the way that we are built. We push to succeed. We work to prosper. What Jesus is saying is, those that work to prosper themselves will be last; but, those that work to prosper the kingdom will be first. The more that you work to succeed in earthly values the further back in line you become in eternal recognition; the more that you work to succeed in eternal values the closer to the front of the line you become in eternal recognition.
Reflect on the way that you currently live your life in your day. Do you work to prosper yourself or the kingdom?
How can you TODAY work to prosper the kingdom and minimize yourself? ( Be specific)

WORK TO BE LAST TODAY. Do as much as you can today to be unnoticed, but, do as much as you can do to cause Christ and others to be noticed.

REVIEW

What were you able to do today to minimize yourself and maximize Christ and others?

How did it go and what are your thoughts?
